Charlie’s story begins with a “business problem” and a Commodore 64.
As a young child, his father bought him his first computer. Like many at that time, Charlie was interested in its inner workings. He tore it apart. He wrote “applications” in the Basic programming language. But after the initial novelty wore off, Charlie set off in search of a problem that this new technological wonder could solve.
From an inventory of every item in the household to a program to automate the score keeping of his favorite game, so began what would become Charlie’s lifelong fascination for exploring how technology can be applied to solve real problems.
A Journey to the Quantum Age of IT
It began a journey that has been continuing for over 25 years and has culminated in Charlie’s vision for the future of IT – his “manifesto” – called “The Quantum Age of IT.”
Along the way, Charlie has had a varied career. He spent the first 10 years working within IT organizations as both an IT professional and leader in a wide range of disciplines (including everything from network design to application development.) In 1997, he founded CastlePointe and continued his journey as a consultant to some of the biggest companies in the world. Clients have included Avery Dennison, Westfield, Capital Group, Fidelity National, The Metropolitan Water District and Pacific Life.
His years of consulting offered the unique opportunity to study IT organizations, how they operated and why they were so often unable to create lasting and meaningful value. These observations led to a realization that the fundamental business model of IT was changing and that a new “Quantum Age” had begun in which IT organizations must be focused on business disciplines rather than technical ones.
Most importantly, Charlie realized that IT organizations and professionals could not be passive during this transformation. They could not simply let it happen. So he has created a roadmap that outlines this vision, the 5 traits of the Quantum IT organization and the 5 must-have skills of the new age.
The Movement Has Begun
Charlie is unrelentingly passionate about this vision of The Quantum Age of IT. It represents both his prediction for how the future of our industry will unfold – and a call to action for IT leaders and professionals everywhere to seize the opportunity that it represents.
Change is upon us. There is only one road forward. IT organizations must transform. The movement toward The Quantum Age of IT has begun.
